Actual News on the Councelling Centre on SRHR and Family Planning Issues

The improved availability of services and information on SRHR issues contributed to better access to and increased use of family planning services and YFHS. The results of a comparative survey conducted at the start and end of the project amongst randomly selected young people from the Karonga district show that access to family planning services among respondents has more than doubled. At the same time, there was a significant increase in their ability to make personal decisions based on reliable information and to gain access to their preferred family planning methods.

The numerous information sessions and training courses held as part of the project, as well as radio programmes and social media activities, also contributed to significant improvements in knowledge of and engagement with issues relating to SRHR. By the end of the project, almost all respondents were found to have at least a basic understanding of SRHR, whilst 93 % of respondents stated that stigma relating to access to SRHR services had decreased. Of the young people surveyed, a total of 87 % said they were satisfied with the services they had received, including 75 % who were very satisfied.

Community support also improved, with traditional leaders increasingly advocating for young people’s access to family planning and SRHR services.

At the end of April 2026, we successfully completed the official project phase of the BMZ-co-funded project to establish a counselling centre, the Pamoza One Stop Centre, addressing issues relating to SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights). During the final months of the project, the entire site was enclosed by a wall approximately 300 metres long, enabling reliable access control and security of the premises and further enhancing the safety and privacy of the POS Centre. It is now integrated into the health services network of the Karonga District Hospital and has become a central point of contact for adolescents and young adults. In recent months, it has been visited by at least 2,000 people each month, who find a safe space for Youth-Friendly Health Services (YFHS) there.

In order to continue supporting young people on their path to a self-determined future, we urgently need your help and donations.

Every donation helps !
